Bronx County Hall of Justice
The Bronx County Hall of Justice occupies two-and-a-half city blocks to the east of the Grand Concourse. Opened in 2007 to accommodate the growing Bronx Supreme and Criminal courts, the 10-story steel-framed courthouse holds 47 courtrooms, seven grand jury rooms and offices for the NYC Department of Correction, the NYC Department of Probation and the Bronx District Attorney.
The prominent exterior features a corrugated glass and aluminium curtain wall that maximises the flow of light into the building. Inside, innovative 20ft cantilevered staircases on two sides of the structure allow for column-free perimeters on courtroom floors.
